Q: What is the recommended age range for a Kidarooz?
A: From approximately 6 months to approximately 4 years old.

Q: In what configurations can the Kidarooz be used?
A: Your Kidarooz can be used as a stroller or cycling trailer.

Q: How is this done?
A: A pivoting stroller wheel assembly is added to the carrier when used as a stroller. To use the carrier as a cycling trailer the pivoting stroller wheel is removed and a trailer arm is added. Both are included and no tools are needed to convert from one to another.

Q: How quickly may one switch between different modes?
A: Each switch takes less than a minute. Kidarooz uses simple locking-snap pins, so no tools are needed.

Q: What age should our child be, to use a Kidarooz in STROLLER mode?
A: Approximately 6 months old. Your child needs to be able to sit upright unassisted, or have approval from your doctor.

Q: What age should our child be, to use a Kidarooz in CYCLING mode?

2. First Trips

Q: What are some of the warnings to be aware of before heading out for the first time?
A: Here is a sample of warnings from the Kidarooz owners manual. For the full list Click here to View.

  1. Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 100 lbs / 45 kg including passengers and cargo.
  2. When a single child is being transported, seat them in the center.
  3. Never use a trailer/stroller if it is damaged.
  4. Passengers must always use seat belts and wear a CPSC or CE approved helmet
  5. Ride with caution. Never exceed 10 mph and slow down to less than 3 mph around corners and on rough roads.
  6. Have your bike safety inspected before attaching and using the trailer.
  7. Inflate tire to within the range shown on the tires sidewall.
  8. Using the trailer changes the stability, braking requirements and riding characteristic of your bike.
  9. The trailer is wide. Allow extra clearance near curbs, signs. parked cars and other obstacles.
  10. Always use the safety flag for increased visibility.
  11. Never use the trailer at night without adequate lighting.
  12. Obey all local legal requirements
  13. Before each ride ensure the trailer does not interfere with braking, pedaling or steering the bike.
  14. Install a rearview mirror on your bike to check on children in the trailer.
  15. Use extreme caution when turning on uneven pavement, and going downhill. Avoid steep hills as you could lose control of the trailer.
  16. Never remove protective canopy when pulling children in the trailer.
  17. Do not ride over curbs. Avoid bumps and holes. Always signal your turns
  18. Be aware of exposure hazards such as wind chill and heat exhaustion by less active trailer passengers.
  19. Always use the safety wrist strap when pushing children in the stroller mode.
  20. Always engage both parking brakes when stopped.
  21. Never in-line skate with this stroller as it was not designed for this use.
  22. Never climb or descend stairs with the stroller.

Q: May a child sit in the middle position of the bench seat in the Kidarooz?
A: Yes. The seatbelts are easily rearranged to accommodate this. See the Owner’s Manual. Click here to view.

Q: Should the weather cover be raised or lowered?
A: When used as a stroller, you can decide. When used as a bike trailer, at least the mesh cover should be lowered to prevent debris from the bikes tires entering the child compartment.

3. Features

Q: Is the Kidarooz easy to fold??
A: Yes. One the carrier is empty it takes only 10-20 seconds.

Q: Are the wheels easy to remove from the Kidarroz?
A: Yes. Removal takes mere seconds. Just push the black button in the center of the wheel, and pull it off. To attach: line up the axle shaft to the axle and push in while holding in the black button on the wheel. Give the wheel a tug to insure the wheel is firmly attached.

Q: Is there a jogging attachment available?
A: No.

TOP

4. Set-up

Q: Is there assembly required?
A: Yes, once out of the box and the packaging materials are removed, a Kidarooz easily unfolds, wheels are quickly attached and the handlebars slide right in. Just once, before the initial use, the front bumper needs to be installed with the included tools: a 4mm Allen key and an 11 mm open-end wrench. It takes about five minutes.

Q: What are some hints to make the bumper installation as easy as possible?
A: Here are a few:

  1. Do this task without your child. Caring for a child while doing this will likely add frustration.
  2. Do it on a large carpeted area with the wheels off, or better, on a roomy, clean workbench.
  3. Install the bumper in advance, well before its initial use.
  4. Do this in a well-lit area, and have a flashlight handy, to see in dark areas inside the Kidarooz.
  5. Follow the instructions in the Owner’s Manual. Click here to view.
  6. Note: The bolt tightening sequence and instructions about initially finger tightening the front nuts, as indicated in the Owner’s Manual, is VERY important. IF the front bolts are completely tightened FIRST, it becomes DIFFICULT to align the side bolts into the nuts set into the bumper. If this happens, you'll need to loosen everything and start again from the beginning.

Q: Is it important to install the bumper?
A: Yes. The bumper is required to attach the stroller wheel.

Q: Are the tires inflated with air?
A: Yes, when your Kidarooz leaves the factory, air is added to the tires. If the tires are soft, you may need to add air to the pressure indicated on the tire. Do not over inflate. To add air, use a bicycle pump and not a gas station air pump with a compressor.

Note: A soft tire does not indicate a problem. This is normal for all tires, as air slowly escapes through the rubber and the tire valve.

Q: May I under-inflate the tires for bump absorption?
A: Yes, but only for strolling with a light load. For cycling, the tires should be inflated to the indicated pressure.

5. Bicycle Trailering

Q: How easily does a Kidarooz attach to a bike?
A: Once the trailer arm is on the Kidarooz, attaching to a bike takes less than a minute using the quick-attach hitch coupling.

Q: Does the stroller assembly need to be removed before going for a bike ride?
A: Yes. This is very important. Once removed, it can be conveniently stored in the rear storage compartment.

Q: How does the Kidarooz quick-attach hitch coupling work?
A: It clamps to the bike, on the lower left portion of the frame called the chainstay, as far back as possible towards the axle. Note: This rearward positioning is very important. One simply turns the knob very tightly, until the hitch coupling does not slide or rotate. Attaching a back-up safety strap is the last step. No tools are needed.

Q: What are some of the features of the Kidarooz trailer arm and Kidarooz quick-attach hitch coupling?
A: Here are some key features:

  1. Universal design fits most bikes.
  2. The trailer arm is curved to allow clearance for the bike wheel when turning.
  3. The trailer arm is made of lightweight yet strong, thick-walled aluminum tubing.
  4. The trailer arm can be quickly removed from the trailer. Once removed it stores conveniently under the seat. Note: The trailer arm must be removed from its place under the seat to fold the Kidarooz.
  5. The bike may be set down without affecting the trailer.
  6. Just rubber pads (on the hitch coupling mechanism) contact the bike, to minimize the impact on the bike’s paint and finish.
  7. This same rubber increases the grip of the hitch. Slippage is reduced. This same rubber compresses over time, so be sure to tighten your hitch periodically.
  8. The entire system is simple and reliable.

Q: What are some of the advantages of the Kidarooz quick-attach hitch coupling?
A: There are some key advantages:

  1. No additional parts need to be installed onto your bike. This reduces weight and clutter on your bike.
  2. Plus, there is nothing to forget or leave behind if you switch bikes or loan out your Kidarooz.
  3. The Kidarooz quick-attach hitch coupling works independent of the bike’s axle, so there is no concern if your bike has a solid axle (with nuts and washers) or a hollow axle (with a quick-release skewer).
  4. All of the above combine to make it extra easy to switch between most bikes.
  5. The low mounting of the quick-attach hitch coupling onto the bike means the trailer has a minimal affect on the bike’s handling.

Q: Does the Kidarooz quick-attach hitch coupling work with bikes that have rear suspension?
A: This depends on the suspension design. There must be a place to mount the hitch coupling that is horizontal and does not interfere with the movement of the suspension, yet next to the rear axle. See the question below on the shape and size of the chainstays required. See the Owner’s Manual for images on how the hitch coupling attaches to a non-suspension bike. Click here to view.

Q: Does the Kidarooz quick-attach hitch coupling work with bikes that have disc brakes?
A: Typically not, as bikes equipped with disc brakes have the disc brake mechanisms on the left side of the wheel (as the gears are typically on the right side). Because of this, most bikes equipped with disc brakes do not have enough clearance around the chainstay, close to the rear axle to clamp the hitch.

Due to the disc, the Kidarooz quick-attach hitch coupling cannot be mounted close enough to the axle. If you try to mount the hitch ahead on the chainstay (towards the front) 2 problems arise:
1) This interferes with the rider's heel clearance while pedaling and
2) Most importantly the bike won’t be able to turn RIGHT, as the wheel of the bike will touch the front of the trailer or the trailer arm.

See the questions below about turning and oversized wheels, and as well, the Owner’s Manual. Click here to view.

Q: Can the Kidarooz quick-attach hitch coupling be attached to the right side of the bike?
A: No. The Kidarooz trailer arm only mounts on the left side of the Kidarooz.

Q: What shape and diameter of chainstays work with the Kidarooz hitch?
A: Round or oval tubes, with a tube diameter range from ½ to 7/8 inch (14-22 mm).

Q: How can I test that I have sufficiently tightened the hitch? The Owner’s Manual says ‘very tight’.
A: First, tighten enough to ensure the hitch does not slide or rotate, and then go for a test ride without your child(ren), but loaded with something equally heavy. Brake, turn and accelerate hard, over a variety of terrain, checking frequently for movement. If there is movement, re tighten the hitch. Ensure the hitch is mounted as far rearward as possible.

Q: Can the Kidarooz quick-attach hitch coupling be mounted on another part of the bike’s frame, such as the seat stay (the tube that goes from the seat to the rear axle)?
A: No. The Kidarooz hitch coupling was not designed for this.

Q: Can the Kidarooz quick-attach hitch coupling be used on bikes made with carbon fiber, titanium or very thin-walled aluminum tubing?
A: No. Kidarooz does not recommend using the Kidarooz hitch coupling on bikes made of these lightweight, high performance materials. See the question below.

Q: In general, what bikes are recommended for use with the Kidarooz and the Kidarooz quick-attach hitch coupling?
A: Kidarooz recommends purchasing bikes that are modern and sturdy, such as mountain, city or hybrid style bikes. The frames can be made of steel or aluminum, but due to the quick-attach hitch mechanism, the rear triangle MUST be an open design and have tubes of the shape, diameter and orientation noted above and in your Owner’s Manual. An experienced bike shop can best select, fit, customize and service an appropriate bike for you. To better ensure compatibility with your Kidarooz, bring your trailer arm. It is VERY important, to test fit the quick-attach hitch coupling on the bike, AND to ensure that it is able to be mounted far back enough to allow full right turns, see the questions below. Also, bring the Kidarooz Owner’s Manual with you as a resource. You can easily print from a pdf. Click here to view.

Whatever bike is used with your Kidarooz, the bike must be in excellent condition, with smooth running gears and in particular, have excellent performing, professionally adjusted brakes. As well, the bike must correctly fit the rider, who must be familiar and comfortable with the bike.

TURNING RIGHT:

Q: Does the Kidarooz trailer arm fit bikes with over-sized 28 or 29-inch diameter wheels? (Most bikes have 26 or 27 inch diameter wheels.)
A: No. There is not enough wheel clearance. As these wheels are 2 to 3 inches larger than normal bike wheels, this means that an extra 1 to 1.5 inches of wheel extends backwards behind the axle of the bike. When turning RIGHT, this extra length means the tire can touch the trailer or trailer arm. The trailer arm has a curve in it, that is designed to let bikes with 26 inch, 27 inch or 700c wheels freely turn right.

Q: We can’t turn right very well with our Kidarooz, especially when going slow. Turning left is fine. What are we doing wrong?
A: Move the quick-attach hitch as far back as possible. This is very important. Remove kickstands, racks or any other items that may be preventing you from clamping the hitch right next to the axle of the bike.

Q: We have done this, and the wheel of the bike can still touch the trailer arm. The wheel does not touch the trailer. Is this normal?
A: Yes. The curve of the Kidarooz trailer arm is designed to allow all turns normally encountered when riding. However, it will not allow very sharp turns when going extra slow, or when the rider is off the bike and backing up the trailer and turning.

Q: On the bike that we usually use to pull the Kidarooz, the design of the bike simply does not allow the hitch to go right back towards the axle. What can we do?
A: There are two options:

  1. Use another bicycle to pull the Kidarooz.
  2. Purchase another bike, which at first suggestion seems extravagant, but modern bikes are incredible value, great performing and surprisingly comfortable. A new bike can be used for many years, and will make your rides more enjoyable. See the question above for some bike suggestions.

Q: Why can’t the Kidarooz system be designed to fit more bikes?
A: The Kidarooz system is designed to fit most bikes, but with the large range of bike designs, it cannot be designed to fit all bikes. If you would like to help us improve the Kidarooz hitch, just contact us to submit your suggestions. If possible, photos of bike that did NOT fit well with the Kidarooz system can help us tremendously.

Q: Can we bicycle ride with or without the Kidarooz handlebars?
A: Yes, you can do either. Kidarooz recommends keeping the handlebars on when riding, and keeping the stroller wheel ready for use in the rear storage compartment, so you can easily stop, park your bikes, and walk should you or your child(ren) desire. Be sure to keep bike locks with you.

8. Tires and Tubes

Q: Are the tire and tubes covered by the Kidarooz warranty?
A: No. Due to the nature of tires and tubes, these items are not covered by this warranty.

Q: What is a recommended repair kit to keep with the Kidarooz?
A: Be prepared for a flat by carrying a simple flat repair kit. Here is a simple, inexpensive list:

  1. Tube patch kit with 3 tire removal tools
  2. Compact bicycle pump with pressure gauge
  3. Optional: spare tube, multi-tool designed for cyclists, front and rear lights and lock

Q: My tire loses air very quickly – in less than a day. What is the problem?
A: You likely have a puncture of the tire and tube. Look for evidence of a puncture to confirm this. Fill the tire with air and listen for a leak. If you cannot hear a leak, remove the tube and fill with air again. This time place the tube in water, if there is a hole in the tube air from the leak will bubble the water and show you the leak.

Q: Before repairing this, what should I first check?
A: It may be a leaking valve. To check, inflate the tire and put a drop of water (or saliva) on the valve, after removing the cap. If it bubbles, your valve leaks. Wiggle the small metal stem as it may seat itself correctly and stop the leaking air. If it continues to leak, you need a new tube (not tire).

Q: Can I just buy a new tube and recycle the old tube?
A: Yes, just purchase a new tube and follow the instructions.

Q: Where can I get tires and tubes for my Kidarooz?
A: Since these items are not covered by warranty, the best place to find tires and tubes that fit your Kidarooz is a bike shop or a sporting goods store. They will be able to assist you. Be sure to bring them your complete wheel. Do not use your Kidarooz with a flat tire.

Q: What size tires (and tubes) are on my Kidarooz?
A: The size of the Kidarooz tire and tube are: 20 X 1.75 inches. If this size is not available, you may substitute the more commonly available, ‘bmx’ bicycle tire and tube sizes. However, you must purchase a two tires that are the same unless your bike stores recommends differently. For example it may be just the tread pattern that is different. The inner tubes usually work in a few tire sizes.

Q: What type of valve is on my Kidarooz?
A: The valve on the tube is the same as on cars. This is called a Schrader type air valve. Please note that you should not fill your tires with a gas station air pump.

Q: When trying to fill my completely flat tire, the valve drops into the rim as I try to attach the pump. What should I do?
A: Push the valve from the tire side as you push the 'chuck' of the pump onto the valve. Be sure that the valve stick straight out, at a 90 degree angle straight towards the hub.

Q: Does the tire need to be replaced as well for a small puncture?
A: Consult your bike shop or a sporting goods store.

Q: Are there any other flat repair and flat prevention options?
A: Yes.

REPAIR: Some examples are sticky patches, glued patches, liquid sealants, sealant and inflator combinations, cartridge air pumps etc.

PREVENTION: Some examples are solid rubber tires, extra thick thorn resistant tubes, tube protectors and liquid or gel sealants.

Q: If the plastic cap is missing from the valve, does it's absence cause air to leak?
A: No. The cap does not help to keep air in the tires. This cap does serve to keep the valve clean, so you should keep it on.

11. Care and Capacities

Q: How should we take care of our Kidarooz?
A: Here are a few tips:

DO:

  1. Clean only with mild soap and water. Ensure the soap is well rinsed off.
  2. Store your Kidarooz in a cool, dry place.
  3. Vacuum, sweep or wipe the inside to remove debris that can soil and wear and stain the fabric and cause odors.
  4. Only wipe the windows with a soft cotton cloth. Please note that dust particles on the windows, and embedded grit in any cloth, even the softest, and any synthetic cloth will scratch the windows. Use caution, and do just a small area to test first.
  5. Keep the wheels lubricated and the tires inflated.
  6. Keep the push-button release axles clean and lightly lubricated.
  7. Do not lay your wheels axle-side down in any dusty, dirty or wet places. Keep them upright on dirty surfaces. See the note below on the importance of keeping the axles clean.
  8. On the AXLE ENDS, clean with extra attention the SMALL STEEL BALLS (that retract when you push the release button on the hub) and steel post (it extends when the button is pushed) and the areas around the holes. Everything needs to be EXTRA clean and lightly lubricated. These steel balls need to move freely into their locked OUT positions to secure your wheel.
  9. Regularly check all fasteners for tightness.
  10. Take care when folding, eliminating creases and pinches to the fabric and windows.
  11. Always transport your Kidarooz inside a vehicle.

DO NOT:

  1. Don't store in the sun or outdoors. Its colors will fade dramatically, the fabric will weaken and the UV protection of the windows will decrease faster than is normal.
  2. Don't store your Kidarooz wet. Always fully dry it, whenever it gets wet.
  3. Don't drag your Kidarooz on the ground when changing attachments or when folding it.
  4. Don't clean you Kidarooz with a high-pressure spray washer.

Q: What is the maximum carrying capacity of a Kidarooz?
A: The maximum passenger capacity is 2 children. The maximum weight capacity in a Kidarooz is 100 lbs / 45 kgs. This is the total combined weight of children and cargo.

Q: How much does an empty Kidarooz weigh?
A: Approximately 33 lbs / 15 kgs.

Q: Where may I view complete specifications?
A: In the features section.

Q: Once our family outgrows our Kidarooz, what can we do with it?
A: As a Kidarooz has been designed for many years of use, here are some suggestions:

  1. Give it away, so another family can enjoy it. Be sure to include the Owner’s Manual and refer them to the Kidarooz website.
  2. Sell it. You’ll be able to recoup some of your initial investment. Be sure to include the Owner’s Manual and refer them to the Kidarooz website.
  3. Keep it and use it as a cargo trailer or cargo stroller. You’ll find the 100 lbs / 45 kgs. capacity and large interior volume very useful.
  4. Use it as a pet trailer.
